| Kathie
Farnell
is an independent radio and television producer. She is president
of Artemis Media Project, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, which develops
and produces quality media projects in cooperation with state-of-the-art
technical facilities. She served as project director and co-producer
on the landmark 1998 Public Radio International-distributed radio
documentary series “Remembering Slavery” which was the
recipient of a Gabriel Award and Gold and Bronze WorldMedals from
the New York Festivals.
Kathie Farnell served as Associate Producer and Creative Consultant
on “Sweethearts of Rhythm on the Road: America’s #1
All Girls Jazz Band,” a 2004 episode of the weekly public
radio series Riverwalk, Live from the Landing. The Sweethearts were
organized to raise money for their Mississippi orphanage in the
late 1930s. They became an international sensation in the 1940s.
This program tells the story of the Sweethearts through their recordings,
interviews with surviving band members, and the music of the Jim
Cullum Jazz Band. Riverwalk is produced by Pacific Vista Productions
and Jim Cullum for Texas Public Radio and broadcast nationally by
Public Radio International.
Kathie Farnell also worked as an independent producer
with Alabama Public Television and the Alabama Department of Tourism
on “Garden Variety: Alabama,” a one-hour pledge special
airing in summer, 2004, which offered an intimate look at the state’s
stunning botanical gardens.
She co-produced the mini-series “Season to Taste” with
Alabama Public Television and the Alabama Department of Tourism.
This five-part series spotlights Alabama’s many food festivals,
from peaches to barbecue. Designed as an eating tour of the state,
the series aired in spring and summer, 2005.
The husband and wife team of Kathie Farnell and Jack M. Purser
Jr. have been active freelance travel writers and photographers
since 1993. Publications in which their work appears include Art

Owner, the Montgomery Advertiser (daily), Huntsville Times (daily),
DeKalb Times Journal (weekly), Voice of South Marion (Florida; weekly),

destinations and weekend getaways. In the past year they have written

Fredericksburg, Texas; Amelia Island Plantation, Florida; New Orleans,
Louisiana; and Nashville, Tennessee, among other destinations.
